West Kelowna's Lynden Lakovic selected in 1st round of NHL Draft by Washington

West Kelowna's Lynden Lakovic was selected in the first round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, 27th overall, by the Washington Capitals on Friday, June 27.

A dream came true for Lynden Lakovic on Friday night.

Late in the first round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft on June, the West Kelowna product was selected 27th overall by the Washington Capitals.

The captain of the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, the 18-year-old was ranked the 14th best North American skater going into the draft. He's coming off a season in which he scored 27 goals and added 31 assists in just 47 games. He also helped the Warriors win the WHL Championship in 2024.

In an interview after being selected, Lakovic said he grew up a Canucks fan. 

He'll join former Kelowna Rocket Andrew Cristall in the organization.
