Revelstoke Nordic Skiers took to the Larch Hills Nordic Club's trails in Salmon Arm for the first Teck BC Cup of 2017. With head coach Matt Smider away coaching the BC Team for the World Junior competition in Park City, Utah, the Revelstoke team was grateful to have the guidance of guest coach Andrew Casey from Vernon.

Under clear skies and cool conditions, 39 Revelstoke athletes aged seven to 50 competed in two events over the weekend. On Saturday in the skate sprints, up to six racers at a time competed through heats on an exciting short course, where strategy played as much of a role as speed and technique. On Sunday, athletes competed in an interval start classic distance race, an event that saw racers leaving the start line at 15 second intervals, chasing the skiers in front of them to the finish line.

Highlights for the junior races included an impressive four gold medals over the two days and a total of eight junior Revelstoke athletes placing in the top five in both the skate and classic events. Winners from Revelstoke were Nicholas Gill in the atom boys 3 sprint, Ruby Serrouya in the bantam girls 1 sprint and classic, and Nyssa Thomas in the bantam girls 2 classic.

Revelstoke's Masters skiers also tallied 13 top five finishes in their categories over the two days against some tough competition. Congratulations go out to all athletes who competed over the weekend, and a big thanks to the parents and volunteers who make these races possible.
