Community Brief:

Revelstoke Museum & Archives curator Cathy English's May 24 Brown Bag lunch presentation focused on the history of breweries in Revelstoke, which date back to the 1890s.

Did you know that the location of the current RCMP building used to be Allan's Brewery?

Did you know Revelstoke had the largest brewery in the Kootenays in the mid-1890s?

Did you know in the 1890s, brewer James Long was claiming doctors endorsed his beers as a great way to get fat? "If you want to get fat, drink Long's"

In 1957, the Enterprise Brewery closed. In 1959 their brewery in Farwell was demolished using fire. It was the beginning of the longest dry spell since brewing began in Revelstoke. The thirsty times ended in 1996 when Begbie Brewing Co., offered up their first beers and ales.
