Local food was celebrated at the North Columbia Environmental Society’s second annual Harvest Palooza at the United Church on Saturday. There was a potluck featuring a variety of mains and deserts created from local ingredients.
There was also presentations about local food, including a test to see if you could tell the difference between local and store-bought produce and a seed exchange.
The prize winners were as follows:
Largest vegetable: James Van Dam for his hubbard squash.
Largest flower: Gwen Lips for her sunflower.
Best local flavour: Tomatillo ketchup by Greg Hill.
Best desert: Apple plum grape cake by Meghan Anderson.
Most ingenious and delicious: Sweet potato marble bundt cake by Gill McLachlan.
Best local dish: Chanterelles by Toni Johnson.
Artist’s choice: Huckleberry pie by Pat Wells.
