Joanne Cooper is retired after 30 years of serving customers in the meat department at Cooper’s Foods.
Cooper enjoyed her last day on Thursday, where she was treated to a large cake, balloons and a banner announcing her retirement. Her colleagues were signing a farewell book throughout the day.
When asked what kept her at Cooper’s for 30 years, Joanne said it was “a wonderful place to work.”
“I consider it a career that few people get to have,” she said during an interview that was interrupted frequently by people saying goodbye.
She said she would miss the customers and her co-workers throughout the store but especially those in the meat department.
“The meat department has become like family,” she said. “I’m sad to leave.”
Finally, I asked her that if she was allowed to leave with any cut of meat, what would she take?
“Prime rib roast,” she replied. “Might as well go for the best.”
