From the traditional parade to a street hockey tournament to a barbecued ribs competition, there’s lots on tap for Revelstoke on Canada Day this Friday.

The day kicks off with the annual parade down First Street from 11 a.m. until noon. That will be followed by the flag raising and cake cutting ceremony in Grizzly Plaza at noon.

The afternoon will be filled with kids activities on Mackenzie Avenue and a street hockey tournament on Second Street West hosted by the Last Drop. As well, Revelstoke’s youth will be showcasing their talents.

A little later, from 4-6 p.m. the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a barbecue rib cook off in Grizzly Plaza. At least five local restaurants, including the Great White North, Village Idiot, Big Eddy Pub, Last Drop and Chalet Bakery will be cooking up their best ribs. The public will be able to sample and rate each participant for $10.

While that’s going on, Braithwaite & Whitely will be playing in the gazebo in Grizzly Plaza. They will be followed by the 4th Street Jazz Project from 6:30–9:30 p.m.

And, as usual, the Elks will be hosting a beer garden in Grizzly Plaza from 3–11 p.m.

The complete schedule is as follows:

• Parade: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• Flag Raising & Cake Cutting Ceremony: 12-1 p.m.

• Kids Events, Competitions & Games: 1-3 p.m.
