The Kelowna Women’s Shelter is hosting an event to help the community connect and learn about domestic abuse on International Women’s Day (March 8).

The Women’s Shelter is hosting Stories & Art: No Longer Hidden, with sponsor Odlum Brown at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on March 8, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The event will give people the opportunity to connect with artists and survivors of domestic abuse through art. Appetizers and wine will be served to accompany the visual and performance art pieces.

Ahead of the event, 21 stories of domestic abuse were shared with artists who then created works of art in the medium of their choice. The stories are portrayed as paintings, poems, songs, or spoken word.

The event is intended to raise awareness about the impact that domestic abuse has on the community.

Only 65 tickets are available for the event and all funds raised will go to support the work at the Kelowna Women’s Shelter.

To buy tickets visit eventbrite.ca.

Since 1980, the Kelowna Women’s Shelter has offered programs and services to people who have experienced domestic abuse.

All programs and supports are free, confidential, and available 24/7 for women of all ages, cultures, religions, and backgrounds.
