See everyday spaces transformed in the night at the second annual LUNA Nocturnal Art & Wonder in Revelstoke Sept. 29.

The arts festival brings creativity and energy to the streets of Revelstoke. Visitors have six hours to discover over 40 art installations selectively places within the downtown core, enhanced with music, food, performances and business events.

Installations may appear in shop windows, empty spaces, alleyways and unexpected places as the familiar is transformed into something new and fantastic.

The Revelstoke Community Band is a group of 20 musicians ranging in age from 12-70. They will be performing at LUNA.

Tell us about the art you create. What mediums do you use? What is your style?

Revelstoke Community Band is a brass and woodwind concert group with focus on playing music in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Our performances cover community events such as Remembrance Day and Canada Day as well as during the Christmas season and in the spring as part of the Street Fest entertainment. As well we feature two performances a year at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre.

When and how did you get started as an artist?

The band is a small group of local dedicated musicians coming from backgrounds in school music programs to symphonies and military music experience. The band has been entertaining the citizens of Revelstoke since 1895.

How has your art changed over the years?

The music from late 1890s would have focused on very traditional styles of marches, musicals and folk tradition. Today the repertoire ranges from popular to movies and still includes the latest musical and upbeat styles.

What inspires your creations?

Our past conductor for many years John Baker and current conductor Jim Redding are the inspiration to challenge our musical abilities and bring the performances to a level that all ages in the community can enjoy.

What is something you have always wanted to try artistically? Why?

A workshop and performance with a symphony orchestra would add insight and inspiration to improve our performances.

Why did you apply to be involved in Luna? Were you involved last year?

Luna was a blast last year and we want to continue being involved in providing fun performances for our community

Can you give us a teaser of what you are creating?

A performance with music to lift the spirit.
