It didn’t happen at the pageant itself, but Revelstoke’s Andrea Threatful has been coronated as one of three B.C. Ambassadors. She learned the news while sitting in linear algebra class at Thompson Rivers University last semester.

“I knew it would be a really good call or disappointing. I went outside and took the phone call and the president of the B.C. Ambassador program told me I had been selected to become the new team member,” the 19-year-old said. “When they asked me to step up, I was honoured.”

The coronation came after one of the original ambassadors stepped down after receiving an internship opportunity at a publishing company. When that happened, the head of the B.C. Ambassador program called all the candidates to see if they were still willing to do the job.

Being an ambassador means Threatful will be spending most of her weekends this spring and summer travelling around the province, promoting B.C. and Revelstoke at pageants and other events.

So far she has taken part in Remembrance Day memorial and Santa Claus parade in Revelstoke and Christmas parades in Kamloops and Chase.

In return, she is awarded a $2,000 scholarship.

“I’m very proud of her,” said her mother Roma. “It’s a huge commitment for her.”
