The City of Revelstoke announced on Monday, March 18, that it will resume its work on the First St. water main in April.

Last year, the city started its work on the water main by completing a section from Pearson Ave. to Rokeby Ave. Continuing its work on the First St. Water Main Replacement and Rehabilitation Program, the city advised that the work will commence in late April and is expected to run through June.

When the city resumes its work, it will be focusing on Rokeby Ave. To Mackenzie Ave.

Once the work begins, the city advised in a press release that it may affect parking. As such, the city urged residents and downtown workers to consider other modes of transport, including public transit to reduce traffic.

The city said that the schedule and traffic plans are still in the works. The work will be conducted on a block-by-block basis to limit the impact on the downtown region and not force full closure of a large portion of the downtown.

Notices regarding the upcoming work will be given out to residents and businesses in the area closer to the beginning of the work next month.

The work on First St. is part of the Water Master Plan, which was formalized by the city in 2022.

The city said in the release that anyone with questions on the upcoming work can contact the city’s engineering department at engineering@revelstoke.ca.
