130 years ago: The Kootenay Star, February 3, 1894

On Jan 27, Mr. Fred A. Ribbach posted a notice that he would not be responsible for any debts incurred in his name by his wife. On Jan 29, Mrs. F.A. Ribbach posted a notice that she thought it was time to quit him.

120 years ago: Revelstoke Herald, February 5, 1904

A hockey game the previous Friday between Revelstoke and Rossland was described as “interesting”. Revelstoke ended up losing to Rossland 8-3, suggesting that the local team needed some more training.

110 years ago: The Mail-Herald, January 31, 1914

The opening date of the new High School was confirmed for the upcoming week, marking an important moment in the educational history of Revelstoke.

100 years ago: Revelstoke Review, January 30, 1924

Preparations for the upcoming Ski Tourney, the largest in the history of Revelstoke, were complete. Upwards of 300 people were at the ski jump over the weekend to witness Swedish champion Mr. Uno Hillstrom in action before the tournament began.

90 years ago: The Revelstoke Review, February 2, 1934

A neon sign was erected on the front of the Regent Hotel in front of a large crowd. At 16 feet tall, it was one of the largest neon signs in the interior of BC.

80 years ago: The Revelstoke Review, February 3, 1944

For the first time in a long while, a contingent of local ski jumpers carried Revelstoke Ski Club colours to an outside tournament, where they achieved much success on the podium.

70 years ago: Revelstoke Review, February 4, 1954

An image of Heather Lodge on Mount Revelstoke was used in a holiday edition of BBC’s Radio Times to illustrate Christmas in Canada to a British audience.

60 years ago: Revelstoke Review, January 30, 1964.

It was a big weekend for the Senior Boys’ basketball team from Revelstoke Secondary with three wins and no losses in regional tournaments. Ron Olynyk was the top scorer for the first game.

50 years ago: Revelstoke Review, January 31, 1974

The Diamond Jubilee Committee was looking for local families that had at least 4 generations of family members born in Revelstoke. These families would receive a small gift of recognition at the Jubilee.

40 years ago: Revelstoke Review, February 1, 1984

CP Rail awarded a contract for the construction of year-round work camps to assist in the Rogers Pass tunneling revision project. Each camp would accommodate up to 400 people.

30 years ago: Revelstoke Times Review, January 28, 1994

The Revelstoke Museum and Archives received a visit from a member of the Archives Association of BC, who described Revelstoke’s archives as “one of the finest” that he’d ever seen in a small town community museum.

20 years ago: Revelstoke Times Review, February 4, 2004

Mountain View Elementary School principal Mr. Cooper found himself in a “sticky situation” when students used 323 pieces of duct tape to affix him to the gymnasium wall during the school’s Literacy Day celebrations.
