Drivers travelling between Sicamous and Golden are in for some potentially dangerous conditions.

Environment Canada says a winter storm is set to hit Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, beginning on Monday evening (Dec. 4) and lasting into Tuesday.

The weather agency says about 15 centimetres of snow will fall in lower elevation areas. Drivers there will also likely see ice pellets and freezing rain. Higher up, such as along Rogers Pass, rain and ice are less likely, but drivers will contend with up to 25 centimetres of snow.

Environment Canada warns that highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. The agency reminds drivers that weather in the mountains can change suddenly.

Monday evening’s storm is part of an atmospheric river setting up across southwestern B.C. Communities throughout the south coast are forecast to see some mix of snow and rain, with the potential for flooding in some areas.
