Scott Marden holds a Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Victoria, has a Master of Fine Art degree from York University and is an Associate of the OCAD University.

A new executive director is joining the Revelstoke Railway Museum.

In a press release from the museum, it was announced that Scott Marsden will assume his new role on April 8, 2024 to replace the museum’s outgoing executive director, Jim Cullen.

“We are delighted that Scott is joining the society,” said museum president, George Hopkins.

Marsden comes to the museum with vast experience in management positions. Some of these roles include being the executive director at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery, curator of Museum Collections at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, and research associate at Aurora College.

Throughout his career, Marsden has focused on community-led initiatives in museums and art galleries that have spoken to the unique stories of Western and Northern Canada.

Hopkins also noted that he is enthused about Marsden’s “diverse set of museum and cultural management skills.” Hopkins also highlighted Marsden’s experience with Indigenous people as “especially noteworthy.”

The Revelstoke Railway Museum opened in 1993 and has seen over 500,000 visitors walk through its doors. For more information about the museum, you can visit its website.
