Skiers come out to celebrate ‘Gnar Day’ at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Who is the best skier of them all?

Skiers and boarders came out in droves to celebrate “Gnar Day” at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on March, 23.

Liftie, liftie on the hill, who is the “raddest” of them all?

The acronym G.N.A.R. stands for Gaffney’s Numerical Assessment of Radness, a point system to ascertain who is the “raddest” of them of all. The game was created by the late skier, Shane McConkey and the guidelines are outlined in Robb Gaffney’s book, Squallywood.

Points can be earned by completing tricks on the slopes, but also by pushing the limits in other ways, such as skiing nude or cooking breakfast while waiting in line. The game is played by skiers and board across North America, and Revelstoke is no exception.

See Revelstoke posted their unofficial guidelines on Gnar Day, with their first suggestion being an ego claim, where they say you can “go up to a group of strangers and loudly proclaim ‘I’m the best skier on the mountain!’”

After skiing in fun costumes, gnar enthusiasts can go to The Last Drop Pub where there will be a Gnar Day après party from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
