Revelstoke Grizzlies add 2 wins in weekend hockey action

Junior hockey team ranked second in division

The Revelstoke Grizzlies added a pair of wins to their hockey record, following games on Jan. 12 and 13.

On Jan. 12, the Grizzlies defeated the Summerland Steam in a 5-1 decision on home ice.

The first period was scoreless.

In the second period, Mikkel Hrenchka of the Grizzlies scored on a power play at 10:42. He was assisted by Jett Patola.

Joseph Krukowski of the Steam responded with a power play goal at 16:17, assisted by Noah Oulette and Rory Mumford.

The Grizzlies then added two unanswered goals. At 16:52, Brady Augot scored, with assists by Luke Aston and Kesler Fyffe, and at 18:55, Raris Meddeb scored with assists by Fyfe and Jake Neufeld.

In the third period, the Grizzlies added another two goals.

At 7:55, Brady Schwab scored, with assists by Patola and David Ander.

Luke Aston added a goal at 15:09, with assists by Kuy Schmirler and Meddeb.

On Jan. 13, the Grizzlies shut out the 100 Mile House Wranglers 7-0.

Revelstoke opened scoring at 7:44 in the first period with a goal by Neufeld. Diego Smith and Ander assisted.

In the second period, at 0:10, Ander added a goal, assisted by Neufeld. Schmirler contributed an unassisted goal at 3:44.

In the third period, Nathan White scored at 0:40, assisted by Ethan Coventry.

Convetry added a goal at 4:00, with assists by Neufeld and Ander.

Meddeb then scored at 7:07, assisted by Coventry.

Prezton Stewart scored the final goal at 15:22, assisted by Smith.

At present, the Grizzlies are in second place in the Doug Birks division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The Grizzlies have 25 wins and six losses, putting the team close behind the Sicamous Eagles.
