The Revelstoke Grizzlies beat the Princeton Posse 2–1 over the weekend, with two goals in the third to come back from a one-goal deficit.

The Grizzlies played in Princeton on Saturday night (Dec. 16), pulling out a win in a scrappy game against the Posse. The Grizzlies currently sit second in the Doug Birks Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) with 40 points behind the Sicamous Eagles who are out in the front of the division with 47 points. The Posse, playing in the Bill Ohlhausen Division, sit atop their division with 43 points.

The first period of Saturday night’s game was a relatively dull affair, offering the crowd no goals and just two penalties.

Any intensity that might have been lacking in the first period was more than made up for in the second. Jalen McRae opened the scoring for the Posse with a goal at 5:43, assisted by Josh Roy and Kyle Schechtel.

McRae’s goal came after two penalties against the Grizzlies early in the period, including one against goaltender, Jozef Kuchaslo.

The rest of the second period would go scoreless for both teams but also included 13 penalties doled out between the two squads. The 13 penalties handed out in the second period contributed the lion’s share of the 46 and 34 penalty minutes that the Grizzlies and Posse served, respectively.

Revelstoke bounced back in the third with a tying goal from Ethan Coventry near the 5-minute mark. David Ander and Jett Patola assisted Coventry’s goal.

Coventry’s work wasn’t finished for the night, as he contributed an assist to Colton McLeod, who scored the game-winning goal at 15:02 in the third period.

After Saturday’s result, the Posse now sit in second behind the Sicamous Eagles, who lead the KIJHL. Revelstoke’s win puts the team in fourth place, behind the Kimberley Dynamiters, who hold a two-point lead on the Grizzlies in the league.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies will be back in action on New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m. in Revelstoke against the Golden Rockets. Last year’s Dec. 31 game saw an impressive crowd of 1,000 out to the Revelstoke Forum to take in the game, so those looking to attend should arrive at the rink early to snag a seat.
