The Revelstoke Grizzlies beat the 100 Mile House Wranglers with an impressive score of 9–2 on Tuesday (Jan. 30) night.

In their second nine-goal game in four days, the Grizzlies have shaken off the dip in performance last week with back-to-back high-scoring games. The Grizzlies’ win at the Revelstoke Forum on Tuesday brought them up to 59 points this season, tying them with their Doug Birks Division Rivals, the Sicamous Eagles. The win also brought them level with the Princeton Posse at the top of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL).

First period

Brady Augot opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at 10:40, assisted by Daniel Wittenberg and David Ander. Less than three minutes later, Revelstoke captain, Brady Schwab got his first goal of the night and 13th of the season, assisted by Austin Wooley and Alexander Bronswyk.

Second period

It didn’t take long for the Grizzlies to get into the second period, scoring just 13 seconds after the puck was dropped. Diego Smith’s goal was assisted by Brady Schwab and David Ander, bringing the tally to 3–0 for the home team, but the shutout was broken less than 30 seconds later.

100 Mile House’s Tyler Smoluk picked up the first goal of the night for the Wranglers at 0:38 with an assist from Ethan Davey.

The Grizzlies’ Daniel Wittenberg picked up his seventh goal of the season at 9:27, assisted by Kyle Federico and Luke Aston. Next, Brady Schwab scored his second of the night at 11:07, assisted by Diego Smith and David Ander.

Wranglers’ Carter Boomer scored an unassisted goal at 15:17, which was the second and final goal of the night for 100 Mile House.

Third period

The final period of the night gave the Grizzlies three goals in short order early in the frame. Colton McLeod, Jackson Romeril, and Alexander Bronswyk scored at 4:39, 5:24, and 5:46, respectively, bringing the score to 8–2 for the home team.

Grizzlies’ Kaidon Mah got the final goal of the night and his third of the season at 13:56.

Despite the score, 100 Mile House goaltender, Owen Pettipas still managed to make 53 saves of the 62 shots he faced. For his part, Jozef Kuchaslo stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced. It’s worth noting that the efforts of Grizzlies goaltenders, Kuchaslo and Louis Adler, have contributed to Revelstoke having the lowest goals against record in the league with just 70. The closest to their record are the Kamloops Storm with 89, while others in the league have more than 100.

As the Grizzlies sit tied for first in both their division and the league, they have now clinched a spot in the playoffs.

The Grizzlies are back in action Friday (Feb. 2) against their division rivals, the Sicamous Eagles. The game will be at the Revelstoke Forum with puck drop at 7 p.m. PST.
