Tania McCabe is the City of Revelstoke's new director of finance.

After months of looking for a new finance director, the City of Revelstoke decided to promote from within.

Tania McCabe was named the city's new Director of Finance, the city announced Thursday, replacing Graham Inglis, who retired last year.

"I look forward to the continued evolution of financial planning and leadership under Tania's direction," said Allan Chabot, the city's Chief Administrative Officer, in a statement. "Her in-depth knowledge of local government finance and the community will serve us well. As our organization focuses more and more on asset management and community sustainability innovative and effective financial leadership will be required."

McCabe served as deputy director of finance for nine years and has been the acting director of finance for the past six months following Inglis' retirement last October. Most notably, she has led the development of the city's 2017-21 Financial Plan.

On Thursday, the city announced that McCabe could drop the word "acting" from her title.

McCabe is a Chartered Professional Accountant and has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.

In a news release, the city says Chabot and McCabe have been working to "place more emphasis on long-term strategic financial planning, and proactive, engaged and informed assistance to the city's operating departments and city council."

"I am excited to be given this opportunity to serve a community that my family and I love and live in," said McCabe in a news release. "Revelstoke has so many great future opportunities and I look forward to assisting the community in becoming financially stable and strong."

It is not yet known why the city took so long to promote McCabe.

Inglis announced his retirement last July and officially finished his time with the city at the end of October. On Oct. 25, the city announced it hired William Wallace as the new Director of Finance, but he resigned before he even started.
