Fatal crash closes Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden

One man is dead following a fatal crash on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke Tuesday morning.

The Revelstoke RCMP reported that two commercial vehicles collided head-on on the Trans-Canada about 35 kilometres east of Revelstoke at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

One man, who was in an eastbound tractor-trailer, died as a result of the collision. Two other men have been taken to Queen Victoria Hospital with serious injuries and will be transported to either Kamloops or Kelowna for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the BC Coroners Service and an RCMP traffic analyst from Golden.

The crash has closed the highway between Revelstoke and Golden; DriveBC gives an estimated time of opening of 2 p.m.

There was heavy snowfall in the mountains last night, with Revelstoke Mountain Resort reporting 32 centimetres of snow since 4 p.m. Monday. A snowfall warning is in effect for the area, with another 15-25 centimetres of snow expected during the day.

DriveBC is reporting compact snow, with slippery conditions and limited visibility on the area's highways.
