Jason Day has been announced as the Conservative Party of British Columbia’s candidate for MLA in the Columbia River-Revelstoke riding.

Day, 44, is originally from Alberta, growing up on a farm near the historic site Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump near Fort MacLeod. He said this upbringing instilled the values of hard work and community in him for the rest of his life.

In 2023 Day and his wife and three children moved from Britannia Beach, B.C. to Kimberley.

Day has a compelling history that includes establishing a home building company with his parents after earning a business certificate from the Lethbridge Community College.

He then decided to follow his passion for mixed martial arts, which eventually led him the the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), making his professional debut in 2002 on the regional circuit in Canada, and then competing at UFC 83 in 2008.

In 2011 Day was involved in a traffic accident while riding his bike and the injuries he sustained prevented him from continuing to compete in MMA.

He then transitioned into a career as a professional stuntman in the television and film industry, where he’s spent the past 11 years working.

According to the the announcement on conservativebc.ca, Day never foresaw himself going into politics but was motivated to do so by “a growing concern for the direction of the province and country.”

“I am not a fan of politics but I feel we need people in office who will stand up for what is right and deliver the message of the citizens regardless of outside influence or political aspirations,” Day said in a Feb. 1 Facebook Post. “I am tired of sitting on the sidelines and complaining so this is the action I choose to take.

“If we are going to change the direction of this province and country it is going to start in the small communities. It is important that people know they have a voice in who represents them so if you have friends or family living in this riding please tag them or share this post with them.”

The provincial election is set for Saturday, Oct. 19 2024.
