Get your rods ready for a day of fishing and family fun at Williamson Lake this Father’s Day.

Family Fishing Day, taking place in Revelstoke at Williamson Lake on June 18, will give kids and adults alike a chance to try out fishing even if they don’t have a licence or the proper gear.

The Revelstoke Rod and Gun Club will host the event, supplying rods and bait to anyone who wants to cast a line.

Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) is stocking the lake with 500 rainbow trout from the Kootenay Trout Hatchery near Cranbrook before the event.

The FFSBC stocks Williamson Lake with trout at the beginning of June every year, and has released 2500 rainbow trout in the lake since 2018. The fish average about 12 inches in length.

George Buhler of the Revelstoke Rod and Gun Club said the event is a great opportunity to get kids interested in fishing.

According to B.C. Wildlife Federation, anyone who has lived in Canada for the past 12 months can fish in fresh water for free from June 16 to 18 without a licence for Family Fishing Day.

Family Fishing Day takes place in communities across the province. For more information visit www.bcfamilyfishing.com.
