Highway 1 is closed in both directions after a 10:30 a.m. mudslide near Herrling Island apparently trapped at least one vehicle.
There were reportedly other vehicles on the road. Police, ambulance and a search and rescue team is on the scene.
A CN train is also reported trapped in the mud, up to 20 car lengths, but no injuries so far.
Searchers are being hampered by concern that more mud could come down.
