Online brief: How long to get boots off the overhead line?

If you call BC Hydro to report some shoes wrapped around overhead lines, how long before they respond?

A Hydro worker removes a pair of snowboard boots from an overhead line on Oct. 29.

When we noticed a pair of snowboard boots hanging from the overhead lines outside the Times Review office this morning, we recalled an online kerfuffle in Revelstoke several months ago.

Shoes had been hanging from overhead lines in downtown Revelstoke for months, people complained, and nobody was doing anything about it.

So, we cooked up an experiment. Call Hydro and report the boots and see how long it takes for a crew to come remove the dangling boots. (We didn't mention we were from the newspaper.)

We made the call and marked our calendar. We should have set our stopwatch; a truck pulled up in about 20 minutes, and a crewman had them down in about two more.

He noted the boots weren't actually on the Hydro line; they were on service lines below the power line, but he took them down anyway.

So, there you go. Call it in to BC Hydro and they'll come take the boots down.
