A partnership between the Revelstoke RCMP and Community Connections Revelstoke Society Food Bank brought in more than 800 lbs of food and $1200 in cash for the food bank and those in need.
The Cram The Cruiser event was hosted at Save On Foods and Southside Market on May 27. Those shopping at the two stores on that day were invited to make donations and fill the back of a police cruiser, with proceeds going to the Revelstoke Food Bank.
“We were very excited to partner with the Food Bank to help fill the shelves at a time of year when typically, donations are at a low point,” said Sgt. Chris Dodds of the Revelstoke RCMP in a press release. “The need for food and personal items exists all year around and we are thrilled with the success of our efforts.”
Police officers and volunteers weathered the unseasonably high spring temperatures to fill the cruisers with non-perishable food items.
In total, 863 lbs of food were collected on the day.
Dodds added that he wishes to thank all those who donated, as well as Save On Foods and Southside Market for hosting the event.
