Highway 97 rock scaling work being done south of Penticton is causing huge backups of traffic on Tuesday.

Drivers are reporting 10 to 20-minute waits to get through to Kaleden from Penticton.

Drive BC reports that construction and delays will continue until Saturday, June 24. DriveBC said the work is being done between Pineview and Sandhill Road for four kilometres. Southbound lane closures and delays of 20 minutes should be expected, they reported.

Meanwhile, heading in the other direction towards Summerland on Highway 97, alternating single-lane traffic will continue for at least another two weeks while a retaining wall is being built where a slide came down in early May.
