Tourism Revelstoke is presenting its plan which outlines how tourism can be mutually beneficial for the community and those that visit it, with a central goal of housing everyone ‘who is in Revelstoke to build community’ within five years.

The organization announced its Destination Management Plan, aptly called ‘A Thriving Community Future’, after a year of engagement with the help of consultants from Destination Think, an agency in the destination marketing industry.

“The concept behind the community engagement and plan was to create a longstanding vision, thinking 50 years into Revelstoke’s future,” said Tourism Revelstoke in a press release. “The Destination Management Plan is about uncovering the community’s long-term vision in a way that inspires immediate action to make Revelstoke a better place for visitors and residents.”

According to Tourism Revelstoke, the organization engaged with the community through film screenings, podcasts, interviews with residents, a survey, and a project with local schools.

They added that through this engagement, housing was identified as a central concern among residents.

“Achieving this goal will take significant cross-community and cross-organization efforts, but with the energy and dedication of Revelstoke residents, it is achievable,” Tourism Revelstoke added.

In the next 30 days, Tourism Revelstoke will release the results of the survey that was answered by residents.

The plan goes on to outline long-term goals and the steps to work towards them in four categories: ‘thriving people’, ‘pristine environment’, ‘vibrant culture’, and ‘equitable economy’.
