Motorists traveling on Highway 97 north of Summerland will have to deal with short-term closures for blasting twice a week through December and into the new year.
B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said 90-minute closures will happen from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. between Callan Road and Okanagan Lake Provincial Park north of Summerland as work continues.
The area is the site of a rock slide from August. The slide blocked the highway and resulted in extensive delays for motorists travelling across the region.
The days of the closures will vary depending on construction requirements. Updated closure information will be posted on the DriveBC.ca website at least 24 hours in advance.
The highway will be open from Dec. 21 to 27, when no construction work is planned. However, traffic control and slide monitoring will continue during that time. A single lane will be open in each direction.
There is no blasting scheduled on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, but other construction activities will continue.
