Two men were fined $250 each for skiing in a closed restricted area in Glacier National Park in Revelstoke court last week.

Sean Den Ouden and John Marshall were on their from Kelowna to Golden on Dec. 18 when they stopped at a parking lot in a restricted area and built a jump 100 metres from the highway to kill some time.

The area was closed for avalanche control and Parks Canada was forced to delay control work by 10 minutes.

Marshall and Den Ouden said they were unaware the area was closed and apologized for the delay they caused.

“It was just an error on our side that we assumed it wasn’t going to be a big deal,” Marshall said.

Judge Mark Takahashi fined them $250 each, with $200 going to the Canadian Avalanche Association and $50 to Parks Canada.
