BC Hydro is spending $2.4 million to upgrade the boat ramp in Shelter Bay Provincial Park, but some think their plans don't go far enough.
The project was unveiled at an open house at the community centre last Monday, Aug. 17. The Review was unable to attend the open house, but was given details about the project
The plans include re-designing the turnaround area to make it one continuous loop, replacing the existing walkway with a floating one, upgrading the existing water break, expanding the number of parking spaces to 32, and, of course, repairing the boat ramp itself.
Gary Krestinsky, the president of the Revelstoke Rod & Gun Club, said the improvements were welcome, but weren’t substantial enough.
He said he hoped BC Hydro would put a windbreak on both sides of the ramp to help small boats leave the shore on wavy days.
Carly Moran, a spokesperson for BC Hydro, said they would be taking feedback and producing a final design that would be sent to interested people. Construction is set to take place next year.
The Shelter Bay boat launch is popular with local anglers, who have pushed for improvements for a number of years.
