Barrie Mackenzie (Fitzgerald) passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday July 25, 2023. Barrie was born in Kelowna, B.C. on July 22, 1948.
Barrie spent his life working in the forestry industry, starting at the sawmill his father owned and operated in Galena Bay. He worked as a faller, ran many pieces of equipment and was passionate about his log trucks.
Barrie had many interests, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and loved to ride his motorbike. In his younger years he was a competitive skier, and ski jumper. He travelled with the Canadian National Ski Team, bringing home many medals and trophies but his greatest interest was his family.
Barrie was a fun, loving, generous and kind soul who would lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be sorely missed by his children Carell (Cory) Elliott of Cranbrook, Scott Fitzgerald of Armstrong, and Abbie Fitzgerald of Cranbrook, 9 grandchildren; Jennalyn, Sadie, Aimee, Brooke, Braeden, Linden, Bree, Colby, and Jacob, and 2 great grandchildren; Hayden and Calissa; 3 sisters Shelagh Fitzgerald, Alisen (Tim) Ormiston of Vancouver, and Leah Tillen of Revelstoke as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Barrie is survived by Anna Fitzgerald, mother of his 3 children, Sherry Mackenzie, and lifelong friend Bryon Knoblauch. Barrie was predeceased by his beloved mother and father.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
