1926-2020 ~ It is with heavy hearts that we announce Beatrice G. Johnson, a long-time resident of Revelstoke, British Columbia, died peacefully on Friday the 2nd of October at the age of 94.
Born in 1926 to Harry and Carrie (Grass) Gillies in McAdam, New Brunswick, Beatrice grew up in a large family of ten siblings, including her beloved twin sister, Bernice. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Beatrice married the love of her life, Rolfe Johnson in 1946 and together, had seven children. Known for her nurturing disposition, she was lovingly supportive and fiercely protective of her family. She was also a devoted and loving wife for 74 years.
She was enthusiastically involved in the community, demonstrated through her role as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, an active member of the United Church Women, and her skillful pastry making, specifically her delicious pies which were often distributed at various events.
Upon moving out West to Revelstoke in 1971, Beatrice sparked an interest in golf and quickly became a steadfast member of the Revelstoke Golf Club. Nicknamed, "straight down the middle Bea" for her signature drive off the tee and accurate short game. Golf became such a significant part of her identity, that she lived and breathed the game both on and off the course. Young in spirit and physically adept, she was able to golf until the age of 90.
She loved to laugh. Her sense of humour proved resolute even in the most challenging of times. She was feisty, resilient, and proud. Often referred to as Jane Fonda, Beatrice defied her age.
She is predeceased by her parents, siblings, and son Paul. Survived by her husband, Rolfe E. Johnson, children, Lowell Johnson (Yvonne), Darrell Johnson, Karen Maloney (Ken), Jo-Ann Huber (Frank), Dean Johnson (Randine), Brian Johnson (Carrie), twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, great great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Moberly Manor, Queen Victoria Hospital, and Kelowna General Hospital for their outstanding care.
