In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Courtney Federico. She passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022, at age of 22. She was born on April 20th, 2000, in Revelstoke, where she enjoyed her whole life. At the age of 3, she was diagnosed with Autism. Despite how challenging it was for her to navigate life with Autism, she transformed those struggles into a life characterized by beauty, kindness, love, and resilience. She loved the simplest things in life, like the wind blowing on her face as she rode in the car (and asked the driver to go "fast fast"), swimming and splashing in the water, going for an ice cream cone, swinging on her swing, bouncing on her trampoline, throwing rocks in the river, and watching her favourite Disney movies over and over again. Courtney loved to share her love with everyone around her, and when someone was sad, she could cheer them up with her sweet smile, infectious giggle, and comforting bear hugs.
She leaves behind her parents, Jacqueline and Armando Federico, and two older siblings, Louie and Cassandra Federico. Also, her two grandparents who are long-time Revelstoke residents, Luigi and Antoinette Federico, and her grandmother Gladys Dergousoff of Salmon Arm, BC. She is predeceased by her grandfather, Len Dergousoff. Courtney was a member of a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, who have survived her and are mourning her loss with great sorrow. She also formed a second family with the careworkers and friends at her group home and throughout the community, who she loved dearly.
In addition to all these people who were her closest companions, she touched the entire community of Revelstoke, and her loss has shocked and devastated many. Her squeals and giggles could be heard from miles away and will be sincerely missed. We'd like to thank the search and rescue teams, first responders, friends and strangers who provided help. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered their love and support. Courtney's sweet and beautiful presence remains with us and in us, forever and for always.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Friday morning, July 15th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Luan Vu celebrant. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, in memory of Courtney.
