Doreen Lorna Hunter

May 28, 1933 – February 11, 2010


It is with great sadness and grieving hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. Doreen passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.


Predeceased by her parents John and Olga Bale, sons Grant and Robert, and daughter Heather.


Doreen will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 59 years Doug, son Murray (Dale), daughters Glenda (Al), Terralynn, Lori (Ron) and son Brent (Jo). She leaves to morn her cherished grandchildren Christopher (Stacey), Gordon (Elishia), Luc, Mathew (Katie), Vanessa (Shayne), Robert (Leah), Amanda (Lloyd), Jonathan, Brendan (Sarah), Kayla, Emma, Jake, Nolan, Nathan, Hamish and great-grandchildren Mikayla, Sydney, Ava, Halle, Aubrey, Mylee, Gracelyn and Seth. Also, two brothers Ronnie (Lila) and Melvin (May) Bale.


Doreen was born in Chaplin and raised on the Bale farmstead at Halvorgate, Saskatchewan. She married Douglas Hunter on November 25, 1950 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. During their marriage they lived in several places throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. raising their children and enjoying their grandchildren. Doreen was known for her strong work ethic at each of the various places she worked throughout her years. Doreen’s talents were many, an avid crafter, bingo player and infamous campfire builder. An outstanding woman with a huge heart and enormous love for her family. It is certain that everyone she touched will hold a special place in their heart for her.


A Celebration of Doreen’s life was held at 11:00am on Monday, February 15, 2010 at Richmond Funeral Home at 8240 Garden City Richmond, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Heart & Stroke Foundation.
