Doreen Lucille Hewko passed away at Surrey Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the age of 90 years.
A Memorial Service will take place in Revelstoke in June, 2020 with further details to be announced.
Doreen was born in Revelstoke, at Queen Victoria Hospital, on September 25, 1929 to Reno and Betty Desimone. She was a stay at home mom and raised four children always ensuring that their stomachs were full of wonderful meals. Doreen delighted in the “Art of Cooking” collecting many cookbooks and recipes for both savory meals and desserts. She enjoyed many summers with her family and friends at the TP Tent and Trailer Park in Sicamous. Doreen enjoyed walking, swimming, reading, knitting and crocheting. She loved a game of cards, Bingo and bowling. Doreen was very active with the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Ladies of Revelstoke baking apple pies and volunteering at the Christmas Bazaar and Tea. Doreen enjoyed traveling through the United States with her husband after their children were grown. She loved getting together with her friends for lunch or a road trip to Vernon. Later in life Doreen lived at Moberly Manor where she was nicknamed the “social butterfly” because of her enthusiasm for activities and interaction with others. This past year the decision was made, with help from friends and medical staff, for Doreen to move to the lower mainland so her son Warren and his wife Jackie could care for her. She moved into Evergreen Baptist Care Home in White Rock, B.C. There Doreen met new people; including a Revelstoke woman that soon became a close friend.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents Reno and Betty Desimone, her husband Steve Hewko, son Ken Hewko, daughters; Kathy Ann Hewko and Arlene Boyle, brother Jack Desimone and sister-in-law Ann Desimone. She is survived by her son Warren (Jackie) Hewko of Surrey, B.C.; five grandchildren: Jennifer Speed of Langley, B.C., Heather Boyle of Saskatoon, SK., Lesley (Ken) Renaud of Windsor, ON., Steven Hewko of Delta, B.C. and Michael Hewko (Jamie Humbird) of Quesnel, B.C; ten great grandchildren: Maverick, Tristen, Caleb, Alice, Parker, Ash, Lief, Kennedy, Karlie and Kaleb; her son-in-law Dennis Boyle of Saskatoon, SK. as well as a few nieces, cousins and good friends.
