In loving memory ~
Doug Stuart, 69, of Revelstoke, peacefully passed away at the Queen Victoria Hospital on October 10, 2022, surrounded by family, after a difficult battle with cancer. Doug will be greatly missed and forever loved and remembered.
Doug was born to Elsie and Charles Stuart in Brandon, Manitoba, where he resided until venturing west to start his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway in Port Coquitlam in 1971. He later moved to Revelstoke to continue his railway career.
In 1975, Doug met the love of his life, Kathy, in Revelstoke and they were married in 1979. Doug and Kathy built their dream log home on the Begbie bench where they raised their family. Doug loved the beauty of the mountains and the tranquil lifestyle this rural setting provided.
Doug was passionate about the railway and held many positions at CPR including conductor, yardman, assistant supervisor of operations, and yardmaster. Doug loved what he did and made many friends over his 32-year career.
Doug enjoyed an early retirement at the young age of 50. This allowed him to pursue his love of riding motorcycles (often leaving friends in the dust), spending time with family, traveling, having coffee with friends, hiking, and engaging in spirited debates. Doug had the gift of the gab and loved entertaining friends and family with interesting conversation and tall tales.
Doug leaves behind his loving wife Kathy, son Dillon (Jen), daughter Jessica (Matthew), grandchildren Jasper and Cash, siblings Barb, Ruth (Nigel), Jo-Ann (Dwight), Ken (Lisa), and Kim, and various cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
We would like to extend our special thanks to all the hospital doctors and nursing staff. Your care for Doug was exemplary during his illness.
In honour of Doug's wishes, no formal service will take place. We greatly appreciate your love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
