Edith Isabella Rear (nee Freer) passed away early Sunday morning, May 30th, 2010 in Revelstoke, B.C. She was born in Brandon, Manitoba to Spencer Freer and Alice Gillet, but spent the majority of her almost 100 years in Revelstoke. She was a well known member of the community, with a ready smile and hug for everyone. She loved to laugh, had a marvellous singing voice, and in her early years played in an all girls band, the Revelstoke Revellers. She and her husband Fred loved to dance, and were often known to carry a New Year’s party well into the wee hours of the morning. She believed in community service, and for over a quarter of a century, she volunteered in Extended Care at the Queen Victoria Hospital. She could be often seen walking briskly “to work” up the hill well into her 80’s, winter or summer. As a devout member of the Anglican Church, she rarely missed a Sunday service, and was very involved in church functions. She loved being outside, whether on a picnic with her family, as a ski instructor on the

local mountains, or in her beloved garden on 5th Street, enjoying the company of her wonderful neighbours Joyce and David.

Edith was predeceased by her husband Fred, brothers Scott, Stan, and Vic, and sisters Nora, Margie and Ruthie. She is survived by her brother Leonard and sister Junie, daughter Sharon Meredith Rear, grandson Simon Alexander Gordon Rear, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her long life touched many, and her loss will be felt by all.

A funeral service will be held in St. Peter’s Anglican Church on Monday, June 21st, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Heather Hamlin-Gravells officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Flowers are acceptable, or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Cartier Court Hospital Foundation, Bag 5000, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Edith.

Arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
