February 4, 1930 - January 19, 2021
Our dear mother Erskina (Breck) passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on January 19, 2021 in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Erskina was born on the family farm near Duval, Saskatchewan. Her family was from Germany. She was the sixth of eight children and the first to be born in Canada. While Erskina was in her early teens, the Breck family moved to Vernon where they purchased two orchards. After high school, she worked for the Okanagan Telephone Company in Vernon.
Erskina met her future husband Beverley Haddad in Revelstoke where he was boarding with her sister Freda. After their marriage, Erskina moved from Vernon to Revelstoke where Bev worked for the CPR. They started a family and were blessed with two daughters, April and Linda. They first lived on Mackenzie Avenue, and nine years later moved into their house on Eighth Street where Erskina lived for 50 years. It was a friendly neighbourhood with family and friends living nearby.
Erskina's life revolved around her family. Every occasion was celebrated and always included her great baking. She was very involved in her daughters' lives, and took great pleasure in watching her grandchildren Ben and Emily grow up.
Erskina had great curiosity and was interested in everything. She travelled around BC, and many trips included visits with family. She loved the outdoors and was always willing to go for a walk, especially when the sun was shining. She walked to town almost every day and enjoyed going for coffee with her friends. She loved life and was an adventurer at heart.
Our lives will not be the same without her and we will miss her always.
She is survived by her daughters April Haddad (Louis Conway), Linda (Henry Okumura), grandchildren Ben Okumura, Emily (Keith Sedgwick) and great-granddaughter Amaya Sedgwick.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marjorie Breck and Louise Breck, and by many nieces and nephews including her niece Sharon Cain and family in Revelstoke. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law Joe Haddad (Doris), Russell Haddad (Martha), Rodney Haddad (Pat) and sister-in-law Pat (Steve Gontar).
Erskina was predeceased by her husband Beverley Franklin Haddad, sisters Freda, Elsie, Lucy and Hannah and brothers Edward, Philip and Harold.
Interment will be in Revelstoke next to her husband, Beverley. There will be a graveside service for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada in Erskina's name would be gratefully appreciated.
