Florence Annie Carten passed away at Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke on Thursday, August 29th, 2013 at the age of 87 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held at the Revelstoke Senior’s Center on Friday afternoon, September 6th with Reverend Ken Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care Foundation, c/o Bag 5000, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Florence.
Florence was born in Revelstoke, B.C. on August 19, 1926 and had been a life-long resident. She attended Normal School in Vancouver to obtain her teacher’s certificate and her first job was at the CPR townsite of Glacier teaching multiple grades. Florence relocated to Revelstoke after a few years in Glacier and taught school until she started her family. After the death of her father in 1948, Florence assisted her mother with the gardening, raising the chickens and selling the eggs. In her teenage years Florence played softball and later bowled as a young adult. Florence loved the outdoors and also enjoyed cross country skiing, golfing and curling. She loved to play cards and taught her children and grandchildren many card games.
Florence was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Priscilla Wyman. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her devoted husband of 58 years, Jack of Revelstoke; two children: Wayne (Joan) Carten of Calgary and Shelley (Jim) Olson of Calgary and two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Nicole Carten.
