It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Garry James (Koobie) Wheaton, our loving brother and friend to all those lives he touched, on October 4th, 2020.
Born in Revelstoke on December 16th, 1952, Garry has been a lifelong resident for 67 years. Garry was a member of the Reserve Army with the Rocky Mountain Rangers in Revelstoke - Active Militia Unit from 1967 to 1970. Recently, Garry was employed by the Revelstoke Snowmobile Club and Revelstoke Equipment Rentals which he enjoyed very much and made a lot of good friends. Garry was also employed at Ken Taylor Motors for 22 years and with Parks Canada and CP Rail. Garry was loved by many and always enjoyed a good party, a good fishing trip and a good bbq'd steak with his friends and family. He was a great story teller and had an amazing sense of humour and will be missed by all that knew him.
Garry was predeceased by his parents, James Wheaton and Jeanette O'Brien, his grandmother Eileen Bouthillier and his long-time companion Zeena (dog). He is survived by his two sisters, Diane (Jack) O'Brien, Kelowna, Sandra (Gerry) Cowley, Castlegar. Nephews Jason (Dawn) Cowley, Castlegar and James O'Brien (Riley), West Kelowna, nieces Dawn (Derek) Low, Revelstoke and Heather (Kevin)Kruger, Sicamous. Great nieces Raighel Levesque, Ashton and Alysha Kruger and great nephews Devon Levesque, Paden Cowley and Tyler Kruger.
There will be no funeral service as requested by Garry, instead a celebration of life will be held by his friends and family at a later date.
Diane and Sandra and families wish to thank all those dedicated and caring friends who have supported Koobie and his family through to the end of his journey. Special thank you to Dr. Chris MacDonald, for his compassion, Kelly Beagle, David McGee and Shannon Buhler and the Interior Health team who have been so supportive during his brave fight with lung cancer.
