Joseph Walter (Joe) Shamon passed away at Queen

Victoria Hospital, Revelstoke on Friday, May 28th, 2010 at the age of 85 years. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Revelstoke on Saturday morning, June 5th with Father Ronnie Tagnines celebrant. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains following in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Honorary pallbearers were Mickey Olson, Fred Dowdy, Steve Hewko, Marvin Sytnyk, Wayne MacDougall and Saud Gouda. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 2088, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Joe.


Joe was born at Seven Mile South, Revelstoke, on February 20, 1925 and had been a life-long resident. He was a fish counter for the Rod & Gun Club and set track for the Cross Country Ski Club. Joe loved to garden and had many bountiful fruit trees in his yard. He was a guitar craftsman in his younger years and had still owned many of his beautiful creations. Joe enjoyed fishing, picking mushrooms and huckleberries and going to the casino, especially in Reno. He had a good network of friends and was a faithful member of the local coffee club.


Joe was predeceased by his father Michael in 1979, mother Emily in 2003 and wife Stella in 2006. He is survived by two daughters: Gail (Halima) and her husband Saud Gouda of Vancouver and Laurie Shamon and her husband Wayne MacDougall of Vancouver; two grandchildren: Kareem Gouda and Sean MacDougall, both of Vancouver; brother Leo (Frances) Shamon of Drumheller; sister Stephanie Georgini of West Covina, California; sister-in-law Minnie (Fred) Dowdy of Revelstoke; brother-in-law Marvin (Liz) Sytnyk of Golden as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
