Kathleen Florence Markstrom


Mrs. Kathleen Florence (Kay) Markstrom passed away at Still Waters Private Home, Kelowna, B.C. on Monday, August 25th, 2008 at the age of 83 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held from the Fellowship Baptist Church, Revelstoke on Tuesday afternoon, September 2nd, with Pastor Rick Eby and Pastor Arlyss Peters officiating. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., Suite 300, 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2, in memory of Kay.


Kay was born in Haney, B.C. on June 6, 1925 and had been a resident of the Revelstoke area for many years prior to her move to Kelowna in 2004. She taught grades 1-6 in Sidmouth when the family lived in the area. After they moved to Revelstoke she returned to teaching in 1968 and taught kindergarten in the Catholic Church Hall. In 1970 Kay moved to the public school system to start teaching the kindergarten program, where she taught until her retirement. Kay loved berry picking, baking, sewing, gardening, quilting and canning. She was a wonderful friend and always willing to help anyone. Family was the most important priority in Kay’s life. Kay was predeceased by her husband Roy, daughter Judy Lauzon, sister Muriel Rudd and brother Jack Cameron. She is survived by five children: John Markstrom of Revelstoke, Bruce (Sandy) Markstrom of Nanaimo, Bill (Kathy) Markstrom of Kelowna, David (Brenda) Markstrom of Calgary and Mary-Kay (Michael) Paschko of Brisbane, Australia; 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one on the way as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
