Mrs. Maria Bafaro passed away at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at the age of 72 years. Prayers were recited from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday evening, March 26th, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday morning, March 27th with Father Ramon Basilla celebrant. Interment followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Maria’s grandchildren: Phillip, Franco, Steven, Tony, Stacie and Sean.

Maria was born in Spezzano, Piccolo, Italy on September 20, 1935 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1951. For the past eight months, she had lived in Vernon. She was a long-time member of the Italian Canadian Club. Maria enjoyed gardening, but her favourite past-time was watching hockey, both at the local level and the National Hockey League.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Filippo in 1985; her parents Salvatore & Giovanna; four sisters: Aurora, Pepinella, Julianna in Italy and Franca in Montreal; two brothers: Gerard and Tomisino, both of Italy as well as many in-laws and nephews. She is survived by two sons: John (Angela) of Revelstoke and Mike (Diane) of Vernon; one daughter Maureen of Kamloops; six grandchildren: Phillip (Karley Trauzzi), Franco (Ashley Dubois) and Steven, all of Revelstoke; Tony of Kelowna, Stacie and Sean of Vernon; sisters: Lydia Falcone of Revelstoke and Evita (Franco) Polillo of Montreal; brother Tony (Rita) Donato of Montreal; in-laws: Franco Brancati in Montreal, Oresto Cava in Italy, Paulina (Angelo) LeRose and Margaret Bafaro of Revelstoke as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
