August 4, 2019
With sadness we announce the passing of Paul Mair on Sunday, August 4, 2019. Paul passed peacefully in his own home with his beloved cat, Cathy, by his side.
Born in Wiesen, Italy, Paul spent his youth in Obernberg, Austria before immigrating to Canada as a young man following World War II. Paul first landed in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he worked on a farm to raise enough money to follow his roots back to the mountains. He worked at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, B.C., where he met his first wife Kris and started a family of four boys before finding his home in Revelstoke, B.C.
Paul was a hard worker and will be remembered by many in the construction and logging industries. Locals remember his contributions and dedication to bringing Alpine skiing to Revelstoke. He taught many to ski at the first Authentic Austrian Ski School on Mt. Mackenzie in the 1960’s and 70’s.
Paul was predeceased by his parents in Austria, his sons; Kristian, Peter and Pauli, his beloved wife Maureen Mair and his ex-wife and friend Kris Mair. Mourning his loss and celebrating his memory are his sister Maria and brother Ernst, his son David (Pam) Mair of Revelstoke, his daughter-in-law Shannon of Revelstoke, step son Max (Wendy) of Calgary, grandchildren; Curtis, Mitchell, Emma, Tyler and Amber of Revelstoke and Devon and Ian of Calgary, as well as many nieces and nephews in Austria and Italy.
The family would like to thank those who helped support Paul’s wish to stay in his home and his friends who continued to stop by for a visit.
There will be no formal service at Paul’s own request, but a small gathering will be planned in the fall of 2019. Those who knew Paul remember his sense of humour and love for story-telling. He liked nothing better than to share a beer and a good laugh with a friend. Please have a beer for him and remember “Bend Your Knees and Hit No Trees!… $5 please!”
Messages of sympathy can be sent to Paul’s family by visiting www.brandonbowersfuneralhome.com.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
