Robert Phillip (Bob) Common passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 at the age of 57 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held at the Revelstoke Senior Citizen’s Center on Saturday afternoon, January 15th with family and friends presiding. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Common, Tom Common, Bill Common, Gerry Davis Sr., Mike Hall and Rod Sherlock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Cancer Support Group c/o Revelstoke Credit Union, in memory of Bob.


Bob was born in New Westminster, B.C. on December 5, 1953. He grew up in different logging camps and lived in Cloverdale, B.C. and the Malakwa area before moving to Revelstoke in 1970. Bob graduated from Revelstoke Secondary School in 1972. Bob married a wonderful woman, Carol in 1973 and raised his family in Revelstoke. He spent most of his working career at Downie Street Sawmills where he was a sawyer and headrig operator. Bob was an active participant in the first Revelstoke Community Food Bank during a hard time in his life from 1986 to 1988. Because of this, he was awarded the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year” award. His main joy and interest in life was his family. Bob also loved to garden and was a loyal hockey fan, rooting for his favourite team, the Vancouver Canucks.


Bob was predeceased by his parents, William and Irene Common, his older sister Sylvia Joan Springle and his younger brother, Thomas Arthur Common. He is survived by his loving wife of 37½ years, Carol; two sons: Lee (Shannon) and Tom (Marnie); grandson Solomon; older brother Bill (Betty) Common as well as many nieces and nephews.
