In loving memory ~
Our beloved Verda passed away after a long battle with vascular dementia in Chilliwack, B.C. She is survived by her loving husband Leslie, son Randy (Beth), daughter Norma, son Paul (Louise) and her cherished grandchildren, Ben & Alison and Kathleen & Genevieve. She is also survived by her brother Harry Herrling (Diane) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her mother Ruth, father Sidney, sisters Louise, Mary, Gladys, Iris, and brother Roy.
Verda was born in Chilliwack and raised in Laidlaw where she met her "sweetie" in a one-room school when they were 10 and 11. They were married 9 years later in Vernon and started their family there. They brought up their children in Burnaby, Prince Rupert and Revelstoke then moved to Vernon as empty nesters before coming full circle and returning to Chilliwack in 2013 to be closer to their grandchildren. Devoted partners, they celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary in 2022.
Verda started working for Safeway as a 16-year-old and made a career in retail, mostly at the checkout stand where she would later win Employee of the Year in Revelstoke while working at Coopers. She had a gift of making those around her feel special, loved and appreciated and was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Her passing leaves a big void, but her legacy of love, kindness, compassion, fun and loyalty will always be in the hearts of those she touched.
Special thanks to the staff at the Cascades Lodge, particularly the aides that provided such loving care. She now rests in the peace she so richly deserves. Her life will be celebrated on July 29th at 2 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home in Chilliwack, B.C.
