The Big Bear adult soccer tournament is back this weekend for the 20th year running.

The annual soccer tournament features both men’s and women’s competitions. This year there were 13 teams registered on each side as of press time, with Revelstoke represented in both competitions.

Sergio Spataro, one of the tournaments co-organizers, said two-time defending champions the Williams Lake Lightning and Canmore United were the teams to look out for on the men’s side. On the women’s side, he said Okanagan Hardwood Flooring out of Kelowna and Vernon Celtic were usually strong, as well as last year’s winner’s, the Nelson All Stars.

The tournament is a social affair, with games taking place all weekend in Centennial and Queen Elizabeth Parks. This year, the beer garden will be located at Q.E. Park.

The Saturday night Beach Party also returns. Hosted by Team Gloria, tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to support local charities.

If you want to cheer on our local teams, the men's team plays Saturday at 10 a.m. at the grandstand field in Centennial Park against the Illegal Aliens from Kelowna and at 2:30 p.m. in Queen Elizabeth Park against Red Deer. The women's team plays at 1:30 p.m. against On the Rocks from Kamloops and at 5:30 p.m. against Okanagan Hardwood Fusion from Kelowna. Both games are at Queen Elizabeth Park.
