A former West Kelowna Warriors forward has inked a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Charles-Alexis Legault, who played for the BCHL’s Warriors during the 2021-2022 campaign, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Carolina, the NHL club announced on May 6.

“Charles-Alexis is a physical defenseman who uses his size well,” said Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell. “He made great strides in his offensive game this season, and we think he’s ready to continue his development at the professional level.”

Legault, 20, posted 18 points in 36 games with West Kelowna before heading to Connecticut to suit up for Quinnipiac University from 2022 to 2024.

In 79 NCAA games over the last two seasons, the Quebec-born defenceman recorded 33 points and led the school to its first-ever National Championship in 2022-2023.

Legault was selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

The BCHL graduate will receive $775,000 in the 2024-25 season, $832,500 in 2025-26 and $855,000 in 2026-27, if he plays at the NHL level. At the American Hockey League level, he will carry a salary of $82,500 for all three seasons.

His deal with Carolina included a signing bonus of $285,000.

Legault’s Hurricanes are currently battling the New York Rangers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
