Come on down and try your hand at Revelstoke Timber Day LITE!

Timber Days in Revelstoke has a tendency to creep up on us so quickly. Maybe this year it is because the summer is just beginning to show its face and we have all become so busy with our outdoor lifestyles that we’ve not noticed the calendar pages flying by. Well Timber Days LITE is back in town on Saturday, July 9, 2011 with an all locals show once again.

As the organizers, we are excited anticipating the the fun of watching local community members come out and try the logging sports events. As a member of the organizing committee as well as a competitor, I encourage everyone to enter an event or two – including the berry bake-off. I remember four years ago when I came down to watch the events and maybe compete, I ended up chickening out and looking from the stands wishing I had entered, secretly thinking to myself that I could out-saw, out-throw and out-race all those other competitors.

The next year I entered and even placed in a few of the events, never mind getting to experience a fun filled day that promotes our local heritage. I hope that I prevent those of you from making the same mistake that I did – all the events are fun and many don’t require experience, please don’t be that spectator that is watching and wishing that they had entered. It is a very addictive sport and I promise that once you try, you won’t want to miss another year.

The day starts with the Loggers Pancake Breky at the Village Idiot, then you can spend Saturday afternoon at Centennial Park watching the thrills and spills. There will be children’s activities including the pie gobble and logging sports events, food vendors, refreshment tent, auctions of the bake-off entries (always yummy!!) and logging truck loads of larch and birch firewood, raffles and plenty of entertainment.

A lot of people have worked hard to bring this event to fruition with the contributions of our sponsors. A huge thanks goes out to all for taking part and making this event happen and grow every year! We look forward to seeing everyone down at Centennial Park again, be it on the competitive field or the stands!
