The Revelstoke Legion is temporarily closed.

On Monday, March 4, Revelstoke Legion volunteers were meeting in the building when they were visited by representatives of the BC Yukon Legion Command.

They said they would be shutting down the operation for an unspecified period of time.

President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Patty Campbell, was present when the decision was announced.

She said the group was “aware” that members of the command were coming to Revelstoke, but weren’t given clear direction as to why.

The BC Yukon Legion Command changed the locks Monday night, after the volunteers left.

The decision to close the branch, Campbell said, is not permanent.

There were problems with the books, she explained.

Due to a lack of volunteers, some accounts fell behind. She added the executive had already taken steps to correct the issue, by hiring a bookkeeper to get the accounts back in order.

“It will open again,” said Campbell.

With a timeline uncertain, Campbell said it’s thrown the schedule of events into disarray.

“We have a grad reunion, funerals, and this jeopardizes a lot of stuff.”

The BC Yukon Legion Command was contacted for comment, but at the time of publication had yet to respond.
