If you woke up this morning without a marker on your face, glued in an inconvenient place, or some other kinds of April Fools gag, count yourself lucky and have a look at some of Revelstoke’s best pranks from local organizations and businesses.

The origins of April Fool’s Day are murky, but several different common theories pop up across the internet. Most sources attribute it to 16th-century France when the country switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. The former celebrated the new year during the spring equinox, which would make Apr. 1 the new year. When they transitioned to the Gregorian calendar, the new year was suddenly celebrated in January, but some at the time refused or forgot the change and became the April Fools. Other historians point to a Roman origin story for the day of pranks, but no matter the beginning, it has been recognized for hundreds of years.

Here at the Review, we’ve compiled a local list of the April Fools pranks that we saw and appreciated.

Revelstoke Cycling Association

The Revelstoke Cycling Association got the fun started early with a special Facebook post. The group joked that with the traffic on the trails around town, they needed to allow uphill riding on their trails to accommodate the riders.

“Remember — uphill riders have the right of way,” said the post.

Blanket Glacier Chalet

The chalet jumped on the joke train by posting to Instagram that they’d added a StarLink Mesh wifi router to their “Contemplation Point,” their backcountry bathroom.

“With Starlink, all guests can engage in activities that historically have not been possible before this time. Steaming, video calls, online gaming - there’s no latency whatsoever,” said the post.

Tourism Revelstoke

With a reel on Instagram, the group takes us inside the work of “Après Patrol” — the workers dedicated to ensuring the best après ski experience. The work of après patrol is to watch out for the après hazards, like bars, dance floors, and pizza.

“Après patrol is truly the backbone of our community,” said their post.

Monashee Spirits

Even the Revelstoke Review — or rather the Revelfake Review — made it into the local distillery’s hilarious fake article announcing their sale to Smirnoff.

“This exciting news has been making waves in the local community and beyond as the acquisition is seen as a major win for the region’s burgeoning spirits industry,” said the Revelfake Review.

We appreciate the joke and the shoutout!

Whether it’s a paper fish on the back, wifi in a toilet, or fake article, April Fools jokes should be fun and harmless.
